The numbered list of every document in a filing, in the order they are to be read and bound.
Detailed Meaning
A Filing Index (or Index of the paper book) lists, in serial order, every document that makes up a filing — the petition itself, supporting affidavits, and every annexure by its assigned number (e.g. Annexure P-1, P-2, ...) — matching the actual physical or digital order in which the documents are bound. Getting this list right, and keeping annexure numbering free of gaps or duplicates, is what lets a court (and opposing counsel) locate any referenced document quickly.
